The Hon John Trevor Eyton

At the time of his speech to Sentient, the Honourable John Trevor Eyton, was a Canadian
businessman, former President, CEO and Chairman of Brascan (now Brookfield Asset
Management Inc.), and retired Senator. A lawyer by training, Senator Eyton served
as President and CEO of Brascan from 1979 until 1990 and Chairman and Senior Chairman
from 1990 until 1998.
Appointed to the Senate in 1990 by former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Senator
Eyton served on three committees - Banking, Trade and Commerce, Transport and Communications
and Scrutiny of Regulations, where he was the Joint Chair.
At the time of his speech, Senator Eyton was active on the board of directors of
Brookfield Asset Management and Coca-Cola Enterprises, General Motors of Canada,
Nestle Canada, Silver Bear Resources Inc., and Nayarit Gold Inc. He was Chairman
and director of Ivernia, a Sentient investee company and perator of the Magellan
lead mine in Western Australia.
He was also Chairman of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and a Governor of the Canadian
Olympic Foundation and of Junior Achievement. In prior years he was the Chancellor
of King's College in Halifax (1996-2001).
Prior to his business career, the Senator was educated at Toronto's Jarvis Collegiate
Institute and the University of Toronto where he received both his Bachelor of Arts
and his Bachelor of Laws degrees.
