The Sentient Council
Acting in an advisory role to The Sentient Group is the Sentient Council. The Council members bring to Sentient experience and knowledge spanning the diversity of the natural resource industries and from having reached positions at the pinnacle of their industries. They also increase Sentient’s access to global dealflow for the Fund through their extended networks.

Charles DiBona – Chairman
(Great Falls, Va., USA)
Charles J. DiBona was President and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute for 19 years. He is an Honorary Director for life.
Charles earlier served in the White House as Special Consultant on Energy to the President of the U.S.A. and from 1967 to 1973 was President and CEO of the Center for Naval Analyses, a federally funded research and development center.
Mr. DiBona is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He served 11 years in the Navy.
Charles has served on the boards of listed companies and a number of not-for-profit institutions.

Campbell Anderson (Sydney, Australia)
Campbell Anderson has over 30 years experience in the resources industry. He consecutively worked in various positions in five different resource companies, becoming Managing Director/Chief Executive of each, namely Reef Oil NL, Basin Oil NL, Burmah Oil plc, Renison Goldfields Consolidated Ltd and North Ltd.
Campbell was a Council Member of the Business Council of Australia and was President of the Council between 1998-2000. He has also served at various times as President of the Minerals Council of Australia, NSW Chamber of Mines, Australian Mines and Metals Association and the Australia-Japan Society of Australia (Vic).
Campbell is presently on the boards of a number of listed entities as well as not-for-profit organisations.

Alex Balogh (Toronto, Canada)
Alex Balogh, a metallurgical engineer, has more than 40 years of experience in the mining and metallurgical industry. He has been Chairman and CEO of Falconbridge Ltd., Deputy Chairman of Noranda Inc.
and CEO of Noranda Minerals Inc.
Alex has served as Chairman, International Council on Metals and the Environment (ICME), Chairman, Council of Mining and Metallurgical Institutes, Director, Mining Association of Canada, and as a member of other not for profit national and international organizations.
Alex has at various times sat on the board of Directors of fifteen listed companies. He is currently on the boards of Cambior Inc., Brookfield Power Inc., and is Chairman of Canada's National Advisory Board on Mining and Metals Science & Technology.

Oliver Baring (London, UK)
Oliver Baring, Chairman of Mwana Africa plc, is formerly a managing director of UBS in the Corporate Finance Division, having had responsibility for the Africa and Mining divisions. Before the merger with SG Warburg, he was a partner of Rowe & Pitman, having spent five years with the Anglo American/De Beers Group in the US, UK and South Africa.
He is non-executive Chairman of Ridge Mining plc, non-executive Chairman of First Africa Holdings Limited, a non-executive director of Merrill Lynch World Mining Trust and of the Tiedemann Trust Company.

Jerry Ellis (Melbourne, Australia)
Jerry Ellis has had a long and distinguished career in business, particularly in the resources sector.
He is a former Chairman and Director of BHP Ltd and Chairman of the International Copper Association. He also served at various times on the boards of Newcrest Mining, Aurora Gold, the International Council on Metals and the Environment and the American Mining Congress. He is also a former President of the Minerals Council of Australia and former Chairman of the Australia-Japan Foundation and the Australian National Occupational Health & Safety Commission.
Jerry is currently the Chancellor of Monash University and Chairman of Future Directions International, Landcare Australia, Golf Australia and Earth Resources Development Council.
Jerry is presently on the boards of a number of public listed companies.

Ian Hume (Sydney, Australia)
Ian Hume was a Founding Partner of The Sentient Group. Throughout a distinguished career, Ian has been a director of a London-based investment management group where he gained experiences
in Europe, the Middle East and Southern Africa as well as a partner of Bain & Co.
Prior to founding Sentient, Ian was an adviser to AMP Private Investments focusing on international resources and telecommunications investments in North and South America.

Peter Klaus (Frankfurt, Germany)
Dr Peter Klaus started his career at KfW in 1972
as
a Loan Officer for the iron and steel industry,
raw materials extraction and untied commercial
loans sectors.
Throughout his career at KfW, Peter worked on export and project finance loans in all industrial and service sectors across the globe. Peter was responsible for the process, design and implementation of a newly formed subsidiary of KfW (KfW IPEX-Bank) which will take over the export and project financing duties of KfW from January 2008.
In addition, as Managing Director, Peter was in charge of IT at KfW and the restructuring of non-performing loans in general. It was from this position that he retired in 2007.
Peter gained a university degree as Economist and
his Doctor of Political Sciences from Erlangen University, Germany.
He is currently a Member of the Supervisory Boards of ThyssenKrupp Industries AG, Lufthansa Technik AG and Frachtcontor Junge GmbH.
